Antibiotics
(article) While there’s little doubt how much good
antibiotics do in controlling dangerous infections, more
information about the side effects of overuse is surfacing.
Experts are concluding that while ridding the body of
harmful bacteria, they may also rid the body of “good”
bacteria in the bowels which is linked to immunity and
yielding the body defenseless to resistant strains of
bacteria.
Health Tip- If your dog/cat
has been on or is needing antibiotics, consider a probiotic
supplement to help protect and restore the beneficial
bacterial in the intestines.
GI Support
(article) The gastrointestinal tract plays a critical role
in the body’s ability to absorb nutrients, flush out toxins,
and sustain a healthy immune system. When any of these
factors is affected, the body can become weakened and ill.
Health Tip- Always feed a
balanced diet of minimally processed foods. Reduce the
intake of excess chemicals such as those found in foods,
treats, and other ingestible items. Consider giving your pet
GI Support products which naturally support the body’s GI
health.
Vaccinations
(article) Most puppies will receive proper immunity against
disease from their mother from the colostrums in mother’s
milk. First vaccinations are important and should be an
important part of early protection. Most first vaccinations
are given at six weeks with booster shots every 2 to 3 weeks
until the puppy or kitten is 12 weeks of age. As far as
annual vaccinations for animals who are not highly exposed
to contagious disease, there is recent controversy that
companion animals may be “over vaccinated”.
Health Tip-
Consult with your veterinarian about his/her vaccination
protocol or preferences. Most experts recommend taking the
pet’s age, health, history and exposure to viruses into
consideration. Keeping your pet’s immune system strong with
a healthy diet and lifestyle is important too.
